It's the lying that is so hurtful

As a child in the Mormon world, attending fast and testimony meeting, I remember seeing the other children getting up and bearing their testimonies.  They would get up one by one and claim to have knowledge of Joseph Smith and the truthfulness of his teachings.  The older members of the group would take such joy in seeing this behavior displayed and I would feel like I was letting them down.  I would think, there must be something wrong with me because I didn't have a testimony.  I wondered how anyone could know if someone else was lying to them, let alone if someone else had not lied to the person that was telling the story.  I had watched my own mother lie to other people to get an advantage, and if called on it she would lie and say she didn't realize she was lying.  My mother was always using some form of deception to get people to do her bidding and never would be straightforward.  I think now that this behavior came from an old program where the different wives of a polygamist man worked him to get the best for her own children.  Staying sweet and acting naive was the mask worn by many ruthless women in the Mormon world.
Deception has become the base element in our social realities, protected and supported by the system.  The old folks love seeing the lie perpetuated, assuring they will not lose their standing or have to revisit their beliefs.   The system gives tax benefits to the organizations that program the youth to the lie, because it creates followers by teaching the kids to not trust their own judgment and always wait for the leaders to tell them what to believe.  This makes all tax payers supporters, paying the liars way. The kids get programed to have faith and trust in an unseen God which the leaders can use to hide behind and avoid any responsibility.  When things are going good, it's thank God for our leaders, and when things go bad, it is what sins have you people done to upset God.  It has become a hate crime to expose the liars, giving them special treatment and status.  The liars can persecute anyone who doesn't conform to their lie and they are just doing God's work, but if you try to expose them, it's a hate crime and you are just a hater.  To pee behind a dumpster in Salt Lake City is a sex crime, but to program people to this perverse point of view is a virtue that must be protected!
