Let's talk about the ego.
The ego - our own personal spin doctor whose only purpose is to keep us from jumping off a bridge on those days that nothing goes the way we want. On those days, the ego tells us that we are not to blame, or that we are special and God is just testing us. The ego finds the spin that makes it all right in your mind to go on and try one more time and live one more day.
This is all well and good. The problem is that other people feed our egos in order to take control of our minds and possesses us. They tell us that we are special; God's chosen people and that anyone who looks different, thinks differently, or just belongs to another group, are the problem.
At the top of these groups there is the ego master, the one that spins the deceptions that we gobble up and put on like armor. These ego masters take on any form that appeals to the herd; prophet, king, president, etc, etc. They do this for us and all we have to do is serve them, what a deal! We can be special, surrounded by other people reassuring us of our specialness, only as long as we follow the ego master, and program our children to follow the ego master to their deaths, if necessary, counter to their true ego.
The first story in the Bible tells us of the ego, and the ego master. The true ego, taking the form of God, walking and talking with Adam, one with Adam. And the snake - the ego master that says don't listen to your own ego, we know better, together we know good and evil as long as you let the ego master define it and take control.
Years ago when I trained as a shaman, a woman asked me, what are we if not our ego? At that time I was stumped and didn't know what to tell her. If I could go back I would tell her, if we just listen to our ego and not identify with it, then we are free to see things for what they are!!!
